The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Michelangelo Antonioni
Within hours of Bergman’s death it was reported that Michelangelo Antonioni, had died at the age of 94.
Two of European cinema's greatest directors passing in one day... Still, like Bergman, he had a damned good innings and left a legacy of many fine films. What more can you ask for in a life?
Yes, this was an amazing double-blow. Two of my favorite filmmakers within 24 hours. L'Avventura is one of my favorite films. I already reviewed Bergman - actually postponing a review of Antonioni because of the news. Ironic.

It was a big loss to cinema, tow figures dying in one day. But they left lots of films.
Sad. I miss them both, even if it's been years since I've seen their works.
They are sorely missed but oh what films they left us!
It was The Day the Difficult European Cinema with Subtitles Died.
My favorite Bergman film is The Silence. Blow Up is the best of Antonioni's films.
THat's true Sonia and we are the poorer for it (not that I would want to watch Bergman every day)
Blow Up was a great film.
