The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

A Burgher of Calais
From the Burghers of Calais at the Rodin Museum, Paris
Atleast the sculpture doesn't shut its eyes, when the flash pops.
I got heat from my fine arts photography teacher, for taking pictures that if they didn't work, you could shoot again. That is opposed to pictures that could only be taken at a decisive moment.
And no red eye either! It realy does depend on the subject. Not every photo is going to be taken at a decisive moment (although most are) and some subjects cry out to be revisited
They are truly powerful faces on those figures aren't they? I took masses of photos of the one at the Philadephia Rodin Museum. Although I've been to Paris half a dozen times I have never been there. Next time.
THey truly are jmb. I first photographed this face at teh version by the Houses of Parliament. The Riodin Museum is a must visit next time you are in Paris
I so agree that Rodin's museum is a place to visit, wonderful things to be seen there. Just wish The Thinker could be cleaned up a bit as it was so dirty when I last saw it.

Nobody has mentioned the physical condition of the subject - Rodin's portrayal of emaciation is heart rending.
