Wordless Wednesday - St Andrews is a horned church in Hornchurch

This week's wordless Wednesday. I will explain in the first comment

The current parish church is over 600 years old. Hornchurch means church with horn like gables (presumably referrring to a previous church in the area). At some time someone put a bull's head on the church, perhaps as something whimsical or perhaps in tribute to the old tanning industry here (long gone).

The next town Upminster, means church on high ground!

It looks like the Church are fans of Texas. That looks like the infamous Longhorn symbol.

Love the black and white picture and the clarity in the 3rd picture.
The last picture is just scary.

Extremely neat looking and very cool that they haven't removed the bull's head after all these years!

I like the 3rd photo especially.

Why do I have Austin Powers echoing through my mind with his leering line, "Do I make you HORNY, baby?"

Happy WW, jams!

Hi Jams, I remember it well! Shame someone stole the original bull's head though. One of my favourite places in Hornchurch.

Ah Beakerkins are you insuinating that only two sorts come from Hornchurch, steers and...!!!!!

Amber some vandals stole the hiorchs a few years back. I'm glad they have been replaced.

The churchyard is a great place to spend time. I love it Alsison. More photos to follow!

Ah the school projects, Chris.. happy memories!

Hook 'em!

It seems there should be a church in Austin, TX with such a skull, but I don't know of one.
