The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Photo Hunt - Lock
The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is Lock. Since I don't have decent photos of door locks, canal locks or those fine men or women who form the second row of a rugby scrum I thought I would stretch the theme a bit. Lock sounds like loch, the Scottish word for a lake or sea inlet. Move to Ireland and the word for a lake becomes "lough"
So having stretched the theme away from things that you put keys in to expanses of water my photos this week were taken at Millstreet County Park in County Cork, Ireland. The building in the first photo is a reconstruction of a crannóg - an artificial Island built in lakes and other watery places and used as a dwelling place in prehistoric times.

Such beautiful photos, love the way you stretched the theme.
Have a great weekend!
Love the photos and the way you have played with the word.
Very clever! It's been pretty interesting seeing how people have stretched the theme. You're the first to change the spelling, but it works for me... with scenes like this nobody's going to argue semantics I think.
Sounds like the leg's mended, glad to hear it!
Now that's a great take on the theme jams. Good one! Have a good weekend. :)

I love your photos. Nice take on stretching the theme!
A really creative take on this theme Jam and I love the way you stech it. Your photos are fabulous!
Well I'm not fussy about stretching the theme and these are lovely photos.
Happy weekend Jams
You theme stretcher you. Nice shots. You have to say loch from the back of your throat to get the right sound.
See this blog.
I think this was a great idea for the theme. I like the idea of using sound a likes. Beautiful shots too. Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks everyone
Ren I like the idea of a blog devoted to door knockers!
Oops... Ok let's try that comment again...
What beautiful photos and great take on the theme...
Oh I love these photos!!!
I've been day dreaming of photo hunts in europe once again... this makes me want to even more.
This is amazing!! Thanks for sharing.....
Very creative take on the theme.

What a great idea to stretch the theme! I would like to try it once. :)
How's the leg coming? Have a lovely week ahead.
Teehee re your stretching... and to be honest, don't mind when it results in such cool photos and a fun read. :)
The entries still cute and cool. Happy weekend. Mine is ready.
always lovely
i love your take on the theme. happy weekend.
Beautiful photographs and a wonderful subversion of the theme :)
A bit forced but interesting - so you are forgiven.
I hope you survived your short week at work.

Stop by!
Hi Jams!!! I thought of Loch Ness myself...but since I'm a bit of a 'drive' from there, I nixed the idea. LOL
As always, some beautiful photography shared. You never disappoint.
I generally look to stretch the theme myself but I didn't think of this one. Beautiful shots. Every time you post pictures of Ireland, I know I must go back, and soon.
Very clever stretch of the theme! Those photos have a lovely haunting mystery about them, especially the first one!
Oh....I think your take on the theme is refreshingly perfect, Jams! Thanks! I'd love to visit your part of the world. Someday.
Beautiful photos and a wonderful take on the theme, very creative. Both shots are so lovely.
gorgeous, jams. reminds me feis chlobhair is today near my home but i unfortunately won't be able to attend. nice take on the theme!
THanks everyone. Glad you like my stretch!
Beautiful pictures ! much better than an ordinary (rusty) lock !
nice photos and i find the first one really interesting. happy weekend!
oh, like loch nest...
Wow, awesome idea. I tried your link, but it does not work. Think you mean this one, right?

Ah, I was waiting for someone to come up with this variation! I should have known it would be you! Gorgeous shots and great use of linguistics! :-)
Ha, you think *you* stretched the theme...
Lovely photos!
Good thinking!
That was a very nice stretching of the theme. Much better than missing it entirely. :)
Lock or loch, I like the pictures. I had some creative ideas but no resources, like hemlock, headlock, hammerlock, lockin, lockout, so my shots are somewhat mundane.

Love it - a great stretch. Now if you'd only capture Nessie in the photo...
I love the way you played with words so you could showcase your gorgeous photos!
the building in the top photo is very interesting. the second photo is beautiful!
Makes sense to me..Lock/Loch!
Very pretty photos, too!
I was wondering if someone would do a "twist" on the word. I was thinking "lox" not loch! Good work! As a Scot (well my mother is) I approve this "twist"!
Mine is not a twist but it is long-winded...
Now I have the song running through my head... you take the high road and I'll take the low road and I'll be in Scotland afore ye. Love your take on the theme... very calming!
Thanks for stopping by.
That's quite a stretch! Made for a lovely post though, with great photos.
Thanks everyone!
I learn something new at your blog quite often. How interesting. Great take on the theme. Someday, somehow I want to visit Ireland.

Great creativity this week and gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing.
Good choice, Jams.
Had I not had to promise her not to do so under the title 'Lock Ness' I had posted the photo in which I am sitting on a wall about four miles south Urquhart Castle while over some butter Scotchs having a nice chat with Nessie.
THanks Sherry, Girasoli!
Sean, I know Nessie likes her privacy so I would not dream of asking you to break your word!
good take on the theme,.. works for me,..lol. I posted late if you want to stop by. I took a different take on the theme this week.
Lovely photos! Great take on the theme!
Very nice scenery. Thanks for dropping by.
Sorry I'm here late, been a crazy month with both kids on vacation! :P
I like your take on the theme lock. I learned a Scottish word! :)
Silly me! I missed an opportunity for a rugby photo!
Great take on theme and not a stretch at all.
It's always nice to see entries with a creative twist. Great shots!
