Hadleigh Castle - Wordless Wednesday

This week's Wordless Wednesday is Hadleigh Castle in Essex. In that background you can see reclaimed marshland, the Thames and Kent.

Since my feet seem so firmly planted here in the US of A, I am thrilled that my photo-friends in the UK allow me to catch glimpses of these fabulous reminders (remainders?) of the past! My dream is to one day see them myself!

Jams, great photos (as always), and I love the B&W rendition.

Happy WW!

Excellent, great sky in the lower photo.

Last time I went there, I only had my camera phone :-(

Log way from where I am now!

Looks like someone took a bite :-) Great minds and all that...

I love the contrast in mood that color creates with these gorgeous photos. There doesn't seem the ghost of a chance people'd be around the first one. It's ethereal; color brings it back to earth!

Jenn in Holland said...

I can't decide which I like best: the clouds or the fields.
Of course, the castle is grand too...

I especially like the colour shot. Has it been post processed in some way? It has a heightened sky effect, to my eyes. Very cool.

Very nice pictures. I've ridden from Dover to London but I don't think we were far enough south to go by the Hadleigh Castle in Essex. Or did we?

How very pretty! I can't decide which of the photos I like better - the b/w and color are both so striking!

Happy WW! :)

THanks all for your kind comments.

Jim if you went from Dover to London you would not have seen Hadleigh castle. Dover castle is great though. I hope you got the chance to visit it. and the roman lighthouse

That's fantastic. It must have been one beautiful castle before.

Both are wonderful, but the first one is my favorite. Although I like how the clouds lay in diagonal lines behind the tower in the second one.

Hotep! Great photo! Castles are some massive structures...

Today is the Day of Presence for the people of New Orleans. The 2-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. I've dedicated my WW post to the recovery effort of that great American city. I hope you will take a moment to view my (not so) Wordless Wednesday post.

peace, Villager

Over here, we get all excited when we see something a hundred years old. I'd love to see the castles in the UK.

Great shots?

(pssst... hey I hate saying it, but those 'snap shots' you've got make my PC lag baaaaad...and my PC's a good one. No-one else mentioned this? If its just me, never mind!!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Great shots (as usual), James. I also liked your post about the hedgehog - it's sad isn;t it. We've got a resident hedgehog in our garden and I love stumbling on him in the evening. I think cars are the hedgehog's biggest enemy, though. Happy WW!

Joyismygoal said...

I want to see that and so much more there I love ruins.

Thanks all. Miscmum youre right about Snap. I thought it would be a good idea. Instead it's a pain. I will remove it once I can find the code!

This is wonderful. I like the color version, its shows the texture better and the clouds in the sky makes it even more appealing.

Remarkable how they build castles with a view in the middle age.

It's an amzing view.

Wow, amazing shots! I love the second with the line of the clouds and the blocks of land in the background. beautiful!

Andree said...

I wish it could talk. It surprises me that it seems there are no barriers to people to prevent further destruction. On the other hand, it is nice that people are allowed free access. The land is so flat. I assume the marshland was there during the time of the castle. It's such an interesting post.
