First bloom on the Tree Paeony
Warmer days are ahead when our species Tree Paeony (Paeonia lutea var.ludlowii)
Gorgeous picture and bloom. Ours are a little behind yours. It will probably be another week. Our herbaceous peony is blooming this week - paeonia mlokosewitschii. It is usually our first.

There are many incredible flowering plants out here on the west coast but I've never seen one of those before. It's gorgeous.

THanks. It was in the Garden when we bought the place. I guess that it is probably 22-25 years old.
I don't know anyone else with a species tree paeony in their garden, especially in a relatively small and narrow one like we have

It's a beauty from China Knatolee. It grows upto 4m tall
The Caucasus paeony sounds wonderful. A lot shorter than the Ludlowii though!
