The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Ringo in a water drop
2009 has been a great year for simulacra. Some have been pretty poor but others, such as the face of Jesus on a toilet door in a Scottish branch of Ikea was a particular highlight. And yet it continues! .Fellow pareidolia fans can enjoy the appearance of Ringo Starr in a water droplet.
According to the Telegraph a team researching water-repellent leaf behaviour at Duke University in North Carolina took high-speed images, showing water drops bouncing on the surface of a lotus leaf. Quite miraculously the drops were said to contain the image of the at-best second best drummer in the Beatles
Actually I don’t see Ringo at all. But do I see Davy Jones morphing into Pete Townsend and then into George Harrison... Now that’s three times the simulacreous fun!
