The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Speckled Wood Butterfly?
Perched on the old bath we use as a planter. I think it's a gatekeeper but I'm not sure... Thanls toStan I've looked gai and I think he's right and it's a SpPeckled Brown
Comparing this beauty with the examples in Sterry's Complete Irish Wildlife, I'd say it's a Speckled Wood. Book says it "favours clearings and [is] fond of sunbathing". Sounds like most people I know!

I think you are right on the ID Stan. And in our garden it was sunbathing!
This looks so pretty on the blue background. I really like pale blue and brown together.
It makes a nice contrast doesn't it
