The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Photo Hunt - Technology aka Upminster Windmill
The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is technology so I have gone for some cutting edge stuff, or at least cutting edge for 1803 when it was built. This windmill is in Upminster about 3 miles from where I live. The photo was taken two years ago after it was damaged in a storm, Happily it looks far better now but I like the look of the windmill like this.

That's a beautiful old windmill and I like the look of it too after the damage. Great idea for the theme. Happy weekend.
Wonderful sight against the sky there Jams. I'm glad they thought enough of it to fix it. Here they would just bulldose it.
Happy weekend to you.
that's a beautiful heritage from centuries past, storm and all =] how does it look like now?
Technology of yesteryears....a very beautiful heritage not to mention lovely photo for us nowadays...and yes, still usable. happy weekend!
Hell-o Jams! Wow. That is my kind of photograph. Well done, my friend!
Ha! An easy target for Don Quijote.
What a wonderful place to visit and the fact that it is still there make it even more special :)
Happy weekend!
Great picture, Jams -- and a nice reminder that not all technology is new and metallic! ;b
Very pretty shot for today's theme. happy hunting.
now that's one beautiful photo! What a treat to see all of the time! Very cool take on the theme!
Yes, a beautiful and evocative picture.
Excellent photo! And it was very much cutting-edge in its day.
Fabulous pic Jams. Very atmospheric!
Can't wait to get to UK next month and see things like this again.
Have a good weekend. Sue
That is important technology there. Wind harnessing began the industrial revolution and hopefully will take us out of the damage caused by all the succeeding technologies.
Beautiful old windmill, glad it's been taken care of :)
Happy weekend!
i always associate windmills to Don Quixote.:p
That´s a great photo of a beautiful windmill. I love the b/w tone.
Happy weekend!
Of course, we are now rediscovering the old tried-and-true wind power.
Thanks everyone!
i like the pic..some day please show us the windmill as it is now.. the restored windmill i mean :)
That's a very nice windmill. Enjoy your weekend.
Very good! Indeed this was an amazing invention 200 years ago.
I just LOVE this photo. I would frame it and have it on my wall!!!
Thanks
Knatolee I would be happy to send you an uncompressed file
I'm looking at about the same era in boat design at the moment.
Windmill is an amazing and clever invention. This one looks cool despite it being damaged.
Ah at the high water of teh Royal Navy, James?
OH I love windmills...what a great technology they are...and yes I would agree with you I like the black and white shot
Happy Weekend to you...
What an excellent photo. Love the angel and the coloring!
It's retro-technology.
that is truly a lovely photo. I am not much on photography; when I play, I play to amuse. but yours is beautiful.
What a lovely windmill :-)
Great photo! I love the black and white!
Wonderful photo as design/composition. And wonderful thought to remind us that the "cutting edge" of new technology is constantly becoming outdated.
Great post, jams!

It's a very haunting photo. Windmills are such elegant-looking creations. Funny that we both featured them today, albeit from opposite sides of the ages...
Thanks for visiting my Photo Hunt today. Have a great weekend.

Very good photo for today!
Cutting Edge does not last long, does it?

excellent choice!
I love this picture of older technology - even if it was damaged. It is also interesting to me to see the windmills of UK. I'm used to seeing the ones in Holland where I lived for a bit. It is also neat that we have been able to transfer the technology from grinding grain to generating electricity.
It is so cool to see all the different takes on this theme. Windmills were a popular subject but as cool as the new ones are there is nothing to beat the beauty of the old ones. Thanks for sharing.
what did you do? Climb on two of the arms and break them?
Unusual when there are just two arms.
you still have this infra around? that would be lovely to visit always!
Wow! Very cool windmill. Great take on the theme of technology.
What a great idea for the theme.
Great shot!
I like the way many photo hunt participants looked beyond computers and power cords when they thought about technology.
Thanks everyone
i've always loved seeing windmills, very useful and beautiful to look at!
