Photo Hunt Memorial

The theme for the week's Photo Hunt is memorial. This statue is the Fleet Air Arm memorial on the embankment not far from the Houses of Parliament. I love it. It's one of the eeriest statue I have ever seen.

NB Fleet Air Arm is the name for the Royal Navy's aviation wing

Wow! I love it too but it's SO unusual for a military memorial. The first photo almost looks like Voldemort or some evil movie creature. But then in the third photo, he looks like he might be cuddling a rescued cat. I'm curious as to how old it is?

Great take on the theme! Happy weekend.

THanks. Annie I'm not sure how old it is. It can't be that old. I can't see thi being erected in the 40's or 50's!

It does look eerie but captivating at the same time. The close up shot somehow shows a desolate look.

Agree about the eeriness. The face on that statue... it looks haunted and so sad... Great photos that really bring out that element, jams.

If this was the face of a pilot it's of a man who's understood the horrors of war. It's uncanny yet very beautiful.

You may want to remember the poor cats that are kicked out of their island in Singapore.

Instantly I thought of some sci-fi humanoid bat! It does capture the superhuman spirit of the airmen! Incredible statue!

P.S. You were right about the connection with Guernica!

Beautiful, and appropriately eerie. After all, it is a commemoration of the death of young men.

Eerie is right. I would also add "stark" and "dark" and "dramatic" and "moving".

My photohunt post is up
